Course Description:
One of the defining movements in Architecture since the dawn of the 21st century has been the shift towards “green” and “sustainable” buildings. Architects are increasingly pushing to make their designs more energy efficient, use more durable materials and reduce waste and minimize use of environmentally harmful materials. Against this backdrop, some professionals are revisiting the principles of minimalism and the functionality of the International Style and also rediscovering the inherent sustainable values found in the principles of Scandinavian design of the 20th century and also in the Zen inspired high quality but functional minimalism of traditional Japanese design principles. The course will show how the influences of these design principles support sustainable and eco friendly design and construction.
