Design guidelines developed by planning jurisdictions can be either too broad, or too specific. For architects, designers, and developers, this can be disconcerting and cause project review delays. This course will delve into effective strategies to better understand and interpret design guidelines. With better interpretation, design guidelines can be properly implemented into project submittals for a more expeditious project review.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify what type of design guidelines are required by the planning jurisdiction and the methodology for interpretation.
- Learn strategies for better implementation of design guidelines into proposed project submittals that can improve submittal review time.
- Understand the pros and cons of written design guidelines.
- Recognize that when guidelines are not fully met an appropriate rationale should be provided.
