Course Description
“Aging-in-place” describes having the ability to live in one’s own home and community safely, independently and comfortably, regardless of age, income or ability level. Without renovations, serious difficulties with access in and out of most of our existing homes, will make this lifestyle impossible. Research and guidelines exist that describe ways to modify existing homes, to delay the inevitable need to live elsewhere. Living alone in any situation becomes more difficult and dangerous as cognitive and physical impairments make common tasks faced in just living, more and more difficult. Technologies have been, and are being, developed to overcome some of these safety issues. Such help is available if our elders, or those responsible for their well-being, are made aware of their availability.
