This document has been prepared using model building maintenance codes, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA®) National Fire Codes®, industrial standards, and other recognized standards to the maximum extent feasible. It was originally developed from an evaluation of Department of Defense (DOD) facilities, from surveys of maintenance methods, and from selection of the best practices of the DOD, other government agencies, and the private sector. This material is based on recognized reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) concepts and reliability-centered risk management and provides requirements for inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) of engineered fire protection features.
